Serena Announces New PVCS Professional 11
Adds Agile Planning, Subversion Support and Rapid Prototyping to Serena PVCS
REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Serena Software is announcing PVCS Professional 11, a major upgrade of Serena PVCS, the entry-level version management tool. PVCS, one of the most widely adopted version control tools in the world, is the leading version control system for small teams that have mixed environments of Java and .NET or are looking for basic version management capability that is simple to implement.
PVCS Professional 11 includes new capabilities to support teams that are adopting Agile development methods and teams that are looking to develop visual prototypes. In addition, this new version of PVCS includes integration with Subversion and improved security. Key features of the new release include:
- Visual Definition of Requirements with Serena Prototype Composer. PVCS Professional 11 now includes Serena Prototype Composer, enabling the rapid definition of visual prototypes.
- Support for Agile Teams with Serena Agile Work Planner. PVCS Professional 11 provides browser-based release and sprint planning capabilities that allow team members to get instant visibility, regardless of location. An interactive team task board and burn-up/burn-down charts facilitate team collaboration and the tracking of sprint progress in real time.
- Improved Team Collaboration with SBM Connector for Subversion. In many organizations today, development teams need to collaborate with peer teams running the Subversion version management systems. PVCS Professional 11 adds a Subversion connector to enable teams using Subversion as their primary artifact repository to take advantage of PVCS Professional’s integrated issue and defect tracking and Agile work management capabilities.
- Simplified Security with Single Sign-On and Common Access Card. PVCS Professional 11 includes support for single sign-on (SSO) and common access card (CAC), the smartcard standard for the US Department of Defense. Single smartcard-based authentication can be used throughout the development process.

Current PVCS Professional customers will be able to upgrade to the new release as part of their maintenance contract. PVCS Version Manager customers will have the ability to upgrade to the full Professional Suite.
